Just because a person is a male doesn't necessarily make them a man. The Honorable Thomas Ka‘auwai Kaulukukui, Jr. provides a insightful contrast of what it means to be a male and what it takes to be a man.

Thomas Ka‘auwai Kaulukukui, Jr. was appointed as trustee to the Queen Lili‘uokalani Trust in 1998 and currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees. He is a 1963 graduate of Kamehameha Schools and received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Michigan State University in 1967 and law degree from the University of Hawai‘i William Richardson School of Law in 1977. Among his many professional accomplishments as an attorney, he was appointed Trial Judge to the First Circuit Court in Honolulu and served as the Arbitration Judge as well as Land Court, Tax Appeal and Administrative Appeal Judge. In 1993, he was employed as the Vice President of Community Affairs, for the Queen's Health Systems where he worked to improve community health through a variety of programs, such as preventative health, education, housing, youth leadership and Hawaiian culture. In 1995, he was appointed by Governor Benjamin Cayetano to be an O‘ahu Commissioner of the Hawaiian Homes Commission, a position he held for nearly four years. He is also an instructor and mentor in various leadership programs, including the Hawai‘i Leadership Center, Pauahi Leadership institute, as well as several youth leadership programs. He is a Vietnam Veteran, Aikido Instructor, and ‘Ōlohe lua practitioner. Judge Kaulukukui and his wife, Joyce, have been married over 35 years and have three children and three grandchildren.
